Apple’s SXSW Ad Campaign Has All Eyes on Elliphant

Apple has been losing ground with all of its products so it’s no suprise that they have decided to think outside the box for the new iPad campaign. Their choice of Elliphant, Gaslamp Killer and Riton is genius. The visceral feeling I got from watching that ad spot was remarkable. The fact that they chose to buy ad space at SXSW the biggest interactive music festival in North America is a no brainer. Apple as well as the artists they chose will get exposure as well as tons of buzz. Unfortunately this ad won’t get me buying more Apple products beyond the laptop I own.

F.T.W.K., Elliphant is not new. You can put Elliphant on a festival stage at the same time as Katy Perry or Rihanna and Elliphant would be able to pull a substantial crowd for her performance even with a bigger more established artist performing. Why is that? For one, she is relatable, two she has a f**k you attitude, and three, her vocal range in combination with her high energy performances, always leave the crowd wanting more.

But, they will get me to write an article about it. Why? Because I’m a fan and supporter of the uber talented artist named Elliphant. Until this ad spot, I had never heard of Gaslamp Killer or Riton. This is exactly the kind of springboard that she and the other artists she collaborated with can use to elevate their music and by extension, their careers. The ad itself stands apart from your standard brand/artist endorsement deal, a fact that is reflected in its performance on YouTube (the spot attracted about half a million views within three days).
