Title track to The Sticks is an animated adventure

Ryan Guldemond, eccentric lead man for Quadra Island, BC-collective Mother Mother, told Martyr a time ago that he rarely wrote positive lyrics – that his outlook via song was “quite cynical.” In Chad VanGaalen, Guldemond may have found his artistic equivalent. The video for “The Sticks,” directed and animated by the Calgary-based indie folk rocker, is a dark match to Mother Mother’s mistakenly optimistic melodies.
