Fan Expo 2012 approaching at warp speed

Submitted by on August 13, 2012 – 2:44 pmNo Comment

It’s that time of year again, and Fan Expo 2012 is almost upon us. For those new to the Fan Expo, it is the largest Canadian comic convention of its kind and third largest in North America. It’s three days of intense action packed excitement where comic book nerds, RPG gamers and C.O.D players alike converge to revel in all that is geeky.

Fan expo has it all. From shelves of memorabilia to rows comics, a full on gaming area, and a chance for an up close and personal meeting with your favourite TV or movie star; for a price that is.

Fan Expo is now in its 18th year has become a powerhouse in the con world. Going from its humble beginnings as a little convention that focused solely on comics, to the multi room exhibition it is today, it has garnered tens of thousands of visitors.

Upon entering the expo you will immediately be immersed in all that the comic world has to offer, from people decked out head to toe in their favorite typically mom-made costumes to your average Joe wearing his/her favorite fan-boy t-shirt.

Unlike the real world, the moment you enter the comic-con, it’s a place where everybody knows your name (at least in guise.) The atmosphere of a con is a surreal experience for both newbies and regulars.Over the last few years Fan expo has been striving to get bigger and better, which attractions like the Tron installation or the Thor vs. Captain America interactive exhibit. But as with all events that are still growing, missteps and surprises are bound to happen as it grows and evolves; but I am impressed with how well Fan Expo has adapted year to year by taking input from those who care to give feedback.

All in all a Fan Expo experience is truly one of a kind.

From anime to superheroes, science fiction props to horror flick collectibles the gaming and the masquerade, the Fan Expo has something for everyone.

The Expo takes place from August 23-26 at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre, and you can visit www.fanexpocanada.com for more information.
