Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Toronto this week greeted by throngs of well wishers as they celebrated the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.During the four day whirlwind trip, they will have toured New Brunswick, Toronto, and Regina before heading back to England for more Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

After spending a day on the east coast, Charles and Camilla boarded a plane and headed for Toronto; their plane touched down shortly after 5 p.m. EST.

Later that evening the royals were escorted via a large police motorcade for the viewing of the Victoria Day fireworks celebrations at ashbridges bay.

On the second day of their tour they attended the Diamond Jubilee medals presentation at the Queen’s Park, then the prince and duchess set off for a flurry of separate engagements. The prince headed to Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone, meanwhile, the duchess headed off to inspect the honor guard of the Queen’s own rifles detachment at Moss Park Armoury.Charles was greeted at Ryerson by a humbly bowing robot saying “Welcome your royal highness.”

He then preceded to the site of the 2015 Pan Am and Para Pan games where he met some of the athletes, sighted a bow, got in a quick game of badminton with the 2011 Pan Am gold medalist Michelle Li – all before leaving tried his hand as a DJ.

The Prince and the Duchess then reunited for a brief tour of The Distillery Historic District of Toronto, which included the Thompson Landry Gallery and a luncheon at the fermenting cellar hosted by Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty, and attended by a plethora of Canadian greats. Examples of the attendees were the Speaker of the House, Dave Levac, Lt.-Gov David Onley and his wife Ruth Ann, Police Chief Bill Blair, Michael pinball Clemens, former Ombudsman Roberta Jameson, astronaut Roberta Bondar, cellist Joelle Mauris, CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge and many more.

After the luncheon, the prince, then toured and gave an impassioned speech at the Yonge Street Mission which was founded by his grandmother Queen Victoria; and before heading to meet with the Assembly of First Nations, he decided to take a ride on the TTC with bodyguards in tow.

As the evening drew nigh, the royal couple dressed in full military greens visited Fort York Armoury for an honor guard inspection and commemorative 1812 military muster ceremony. They then headed to the airport, next destination Regina, before returning  to England.Story and photos by Tee Onek
