Geminis celebrate Canadian TV with a smile

Honours for excellence in Canadian television will be doled out tonight in Toronto as the 26th annual Gemini Awards take to the Canadian Broadcasting Centre.

The show, which will air live on CBC at 8:00 p.m. EST, is being hosted by Canadian comic Russell Peters, who said he will pull no punches with the celebrities in attendance.

“Actors have no sense of humour to begin with,”  Peters told CTV yesterday. “Generally, the better the actor the less personality they have. Thank God we don’t have that many great actors in Canada.”

The awards gala will mark the culmination of a three-day celebration of Canadian television and feature appearances by Jason Priestley, Catherine O’Hara and Hugh Dillon.

Tom Green will also be hosting a backstage party that will stream live online.
