American Brent Delahoussaye led the Canadian Open with an 8-under par after setting a course-record at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, Ont., on the first day of the tournament. The 28-year-old South Carolonian’s score, a 62, matched the lowest round played in the past 100 years by any participant at the Canadian Open. In addition to the tournament leader, nine of the 10 players on the leaderboard at the Open are from the U.S.

Own the Podium, the $117-million program that has been credited with propelling Canada to a record 14 gold at the Vancouver Games, announced today a similar plan for the country’s summer athletes in London 2012. At a meeting that included the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee, John Furlong, chair of Own the Podium announced an injection of $30 million for athletes training for the upcoming Summer Games. For its part, the Canadian Olympic Committee vowed the country would finish in the top-12 in the medal count in 2012.
