U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will today headline a major international conference in Kabul. Billed as the most pivotal meeting in the country’s history, the aim of the conference is to set Afghanistan on a path to self security. Even after nine years of fighting, $40 billion in aid and an insurgency that is growing ever brazen, the UN’s top diplomat to Afghanistan, Staffan di Mistura, says the west is willing to hand over more power to the war-torn nation and the government of President Hamid Karzai. “Afghanistan is made [up] of very proud people who feel extremely strong about this,” said Mistura.
