What’s Next For Drake?
After conquering the music industry, creating the OVO music festival, starting the OVO clothing line, becoming the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors, Drake has decided to become a restauranteur with one of Toronto’s most celebrated chef’s Susur Lee. It’s called Frings. The name of the restaurant harkens back to a menu item that was once a staple of one of Canada’s most beloved fast food franchise’s or is it Drake’s patois Nickname for RiRi?
The opening night had its share of celebrity quotient, as well as a crowd of well dressed foodies and who’s who of Toronto who made the short list for the opening. The celebs spotted at the opening, Serena Williams, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jayden Smith, Levi and Kai Lee. Susur grinned like a Cheshire cat when asked when and how this collaboration came to be, Drake with his arm draped over the shoulder of Lee responded “Secrets are good.”
This restaurant is for my sons, “It’s all my sons. Absolutely,” he said. “ I really felt that it was time, you know, for them to flourish. They’ve been working for so many years with me, and now they found their own way, their own kind of trail to follow.”
In today’s day and age keeping something secret is next to impossible. Somehow Susur Lee and Drake, just showed that it can be done. They took over a space renovated it, planned the menu and the design all while teasing everyone on social media that they were collaborating yet noone was able to put the clues together.
Susur was one of the first to set up shop on King St W. long before Buca, The Spoke Club as well as other’s that now adorn the strip. Fring’s is the latest incursion on the strip and with it comes not only the lee’s masterful culinary creations, but Drake’s deft megawatt touch.
