Andy C – The Last Execution: Guvernment Nightclub
For a set at Guvernment nightclub in Toronto, the scene was not that unusal on Nov. 28, a chilly Friday evening. There was a lineup that snaked all the way around the complex from the front doors, along Queen’s Quay and up Lower Jarvis. But this was not just another ordinary night – this was Destiny Events’ last party and Andy C’s last performance at the storied entertainment complex which is set to close its doors in early 2015.
Marcus Visionary started the night off priming the thousands of bodies who had made their way to the nightclub – things were begining to really warm up. As midnight approached, Andy C made his presence known and received a thundering welcome from the sweaty masses.
A pioneering force in the drum n bass scene, Andy C is affectionately known as The Executioner and has been at the forefront of genre since 1992.
Andy C is a man on a mission to elevate the genre – and that he does. As the co-founder of the illustrious label, Ram Records, he has inspired legions of fans and have built the foundation of D’n’B communities.
From the moment he let the needle drop, you knew Andy wanted to make tonight something special- a grand memory for all those in attendance before the Guvernment Entertainment Complex closes its doors for good.
MC Armanni Reign with Andy C at the helm of his trademark 3 turntable setup, delivered layers upon layers of old school jungle, freestyle, mixed with newer up tempo, but heavier D’n’B to vibrate your internal organs. Combined with stellar lighting and a visual masterpiece – the crowd danced and gyrated for his entire 3 hr set.
Andy hopped on the mic to let everyone know this would be his last song and captured the moment, taking a video on his phone -capturing the energy of the crowd and the last moments of chapter ending.
He continued expressing his gratitude for all who come to see him at his Toronto performances, but more so everyone who had came out this evening to see him say goodbye to the Guvernment.
Ryan Kruger, Andy C, and MC Armanni Reign followed suit, coming out to take pictures and greet fans that were near the front of the stage.
